A Family Uncovering the Mystery

The Makurumure name echoes through generations, yet much of our history remains hidden in the mists of time. We know we come from a lineage of strength and resilience, but the details of our journey are waiting to be uncovered.

What trials did our ancestors face? What triumphs did they celebrate? Your knowledge could be the key to unlocking these secrets.

From Mozambique to the World

Our story begins with the Sena people of Mozambique. The Sena are a Bantu ethnolinguistic group with origins in northwestern region of Mozambique , Sofala Province and Zambezia Province.

Hwesa people were founded by four brothers Chifodya, Katerere, Sabvure and Sachiwo being born by Gunduza in Sena Mozambique. The four brothers left their father Gunduza in Sena and journied to Zimbabwe. When they arrived in manicaland since they were men of war they were promised land by Chief Saunyama if they were to assit him in winning a pending war. Eventually they assisted in the war and won, as promised they were given the Katerere area and established it into the Katerere ancestoral home as we know it today.

The Makurumure story has it that, a direct descendat from the Katerere in Nyanga by the name of Chimhangara migrated from Nyanga together with his sister named Gupo. There is no clear trace of where Gupo ended up and the limited history available dwells mostly on Chimhangara, however unclear to which generation of the Katerer he belonged to.

It is evidenced that Chimhangara became the ancestor of the Makurumure family that is now settled in the Uzumba area of Mashonaland East in Zimbabwe.
